Swing‘n Skate will be back at City Hall on Sundays from 1:00 – 4:00 pm throughout January and February. Show off your best moves to some swing, big band, soca, salsa and more inside Edmonton City Hall. If you’d rather be outdoors, the music will be broadcast directly outside for ice skaters at City Hall Plaza.
Come out to St. Albert to hear Jacob from 6:30pm-9:30pm. No cover charge, reservations recommended.
Join the Jacob Do Trio (Kessler Douglas- bass; Eric Zeller-drums) as they play a set of very exciting tunes. Reservations are highly recommended and can be made through the Blue Chair.

The Jacob Do Octet thrives at the intersection of structured innovation and artistic freedom. In a ground-breaking event closing out the Festival, The Edmonton Jazz Orchestra, Edmonton’s premiere professional big band, will share the stage with members of the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra at the Winspear Centre.
This Sunday afternoon matinee concert will feature some of Edmonton’s best jazz and classical artists and Edmonton’s finest aspiring young jazz musicians, playing arrangements of well-known tunes that festivalgoers and music-lovers have come to love and enjoy, including songs made famous by George Gershwin, Duke Ellington, Louis Armstrong, Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra plus many more.
This one-of-a-kind concert experience will highlight the rich talent and spirit of collaboration that is thriving in the Edmonton’s arts community, celebrating an all-Edmonton lineup of musicians.
For only $5, kids ages 3-12 get to experience the concert along with Jazz for Kids, an interactive, engaging, educational performance in the Winspear lobby, one hour prior to the show.

The Jacob Do Quartet approaches Black American Music with an authentic, precise, and ambitious perspective, connecting to audiences through the shared human experience. Utilising the classic saxophone/piano/bass/drums instrumentation, Jacob’s original compositions and arrangements are unified by soundscapes of intensity and vulnerability, contributing to the rich lineage of the saxophone quartet. Jacob channels his creativity from his own lived experiences, combining extensive training with a bold artistic vision. This results in a captivating blend of tradition and contemporary exploration that evokes ferocity, persistence, intimacy, and nostalgia. The band features Jacob Do on tenor saxophone, Josh Krushel on piano, Aretha Tillotson on bass, and Eric Zeller on drums.

Sean Croal is an upright and electric bassist, as well as a composer, bandleader, and educator. Sean leads his own ensemble whose performances take an eclectic and genre crossing approach to the jazz trio, incorporating baroque, hard-bop, and contemporary jazz. This ensemble hosts “New Standards”, which is a weekly performance and jam session hosted in Edmonton and features a wide array of musical guests both local and international. This trio featuring Gareth Gilliland on Guitar, and Biboye Onanuga on drum kit has been sharing the stage weekly for over two years here in Edmonton, and has traveled as far as Helsinki playing music together. The trio is excited to be featuring one of Edmonton’s most in demand saxophonists Jacob Do, incorporating his voice into the tight knit trio.

Connor has been heavily involved in the local music scene. Working with a multitude of music artists (such as Arlo Maverick, John Hewitt, & Electric Religious) and participating in many performances in Edmonton and across Western Canada as a bass player in a variety of forms including jazz, rock, funk, pop, R&B/soul, folk, indie, country, and classical.
Whether he’s in the studio or performing live, Connor’s background in a wide range of genres and his cross-training on both upright and electric bass have given him a unique style and an ear for laying down the perfect bass line in any song. His passion for many different types of music coupled with his impeccable performance skills and formal education make him a sought-after musician for live music performance, recordings, and song compositions.

The Don Berner Big Band is the city of Edmonton’s flagship large jazz ensemble. An Edmonton jazz favourite for over a decade, the Don Berner Big Band became the first professional large jazz ensemble in Edmonton to have a fully programmed concert season in 2021. Featuring Edmonton’s best jazz musicians, the Don Berner Big Band presents an eclectic season drawing from classic big band and swing repertoire, collaborations with contemporary and pop artists, adaptations of works from other mediums, and more with a variety of special illustrious guests.

Two of Edmonton’s only professional big bands go head to head for an evening of musical acrobatics that has to be seen to be believed!! 36 musicians on one stage!! One exceptional ticket price! The Artists
Will Northlich-Redmond is a composer, multi-instrumentalist, and visual artist. His compositions have been featured all over the US, Canada, Europe, and Asia. Work has been supported by the National Gugak Center (Seoul, South Korea), the NYU Vilar Global Fellows, Amsterdam’s STEIM Center, the Moers Festival, the Wesleyan University Laptop Ensemble and Balinese Gamelan Ensemble, the Portland Flute Society, the Ojai Art Center, the NYU New Music Ensemble, and New Music Edmonton. Will performs electronic music under the pseudonym BlipVert, which features some of his most personal and extreme compositions.
Temple of Electryone is a synaesthetic homage to the goddess Electryone. Throughout the piece, Electryone’s mystique is highlighted by subtly shifting aural and visual elements such as interpretive conducting, electronic and acoustic sound, and graphic imagery.

Sean Croal is an upright and electric bassist, as well as a composer, bandleader, and educator. Sean was born in Alberta but has spent much of his life internationally studying bass in places such as Doha, Qatar, and Helsinki, Finland. Sean is quickly establishing himself as one of the most active names in Alberta's music scene, playing alongside the likes of Bob Mintzer, Terell Stafford, and Charlie Austin to name a few. Sean leads his own ensemble whose performances take an exciting and energetic approach to the jazz trio, incorporating baroque, swing, and hard-bop. Sean continues to establish himself throughout Alberta, whilst still being a part of the development and education in the music community throughout Canada and beyond.
